While many alpaca breeders in the US are on their way home from our national alpaca show, some of us chose not to risk a drive to Indiana in March. This may have been a mild winter, but the chance of running into bad weather on that trip was certainly a deterrent for us.
We are looking forward to our first alpaca shows of the season starting on April 1. The North American Alpaca Show and the Northeast Alpaca Expo will both happen at the Eastern States Exhibition in Springfield, MA. Our show string this spring includes one two year old male, Snowshoe Ammonoosuc. Ammo is a full brother to our multi-champion male, Snowshoe Aristides. Now that he is two, it’s time for Ammo to begin his breeding career and take a spin in the show ring. We think he’s looking pretty good – a lot like his big brother!
We are also taking three juvies to the shows, one male and two females. Snowshoe Allegro is a white male with a lot of potential who is co-owned with our friends at Spirit Wind Farm. The two females we are showing are Snowshoe Sweet Cicely, who is from one of our strongest production lines, and Snowshoe Haiku, one of only a few offspring of Snowshoe Pharaoh, a fawn male with very fine fiber that has been underutilized in our breeding program.
We always look forward to this show weekend, as it marks the end of winter and the beginning of our busy season of showing, shearing, breeding and birthing. We’re ready!
