We’re working with alpaca fiber in one form or another all year ’round. Shearing season is over, so it’s time to skirt and grade our fleeces for processing. The best fiber will go to the mill to be carded into roving or spun into yarn. Lower grades will become rug yarn or felting fiber.
We have very little yarn inventory on our farm right now, but you can find alpaca yarn from Snowshoe Farm in several local shops, including Peacham Corner Guild, The Yarn Bank, Norwich Knits and Vermont Yarn Shop at Plainview Farm.
This week I”ll be dyeing up lots of mini-skeins, so you’ll be seeing those in the yarn shops later this month.
Don’t miss the Great Northern Yarn Haul, which starts today and features a number of shops in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Two of the shops that carry our yarn, The Yarn Bank and Norwich Knits are participating in the GNYH.
