Dyeing Yarn

0

I’ve been trying a new dyeing method this week and I love it!  Dyeing in the oven.  It’s so simple and less messy than stove top dyeing. I bought some large stainless steel steam table pans on ebay; they fit the oven perfectly. I use Greener Shades nontoxic dyes. I might go into a more detailed description of my method at some point, but basically, I soak the yarn, adjust the pH, squeeze the water out of the yarn, paint it right in the pan, cover it with foil and pop it in a 250 oven for an hour. Beautiful!

I’ll have hand painted sock yarn and lace yarn ready for the Southern Adirondack Fiber Festival next weekend. I hope to have more lace yarn dyed in solid and semi-solid colors for the Vermont Sheep & Wool Festival the following weekend. Now if the weather would just cooperate. This dampness isn’t conducive to good drying!

Here are a couple pans of dyed yarn ready to go in the oven
