We’ve had some beautiful sunny and mild days lately, but today is a not-so-gentle reminder that it’s still mid-winter in the Northeast Kingdom. The temps are falling, the wind is howling and the 1″ to 3″ that was predicted has turned into at least 8″ of new snow. Nevertheless, Snowshoe Farm Alpacas is making plans for spring.
The first sign of spring at Snowshoe Farm is when Ron breaks from his winter routine of barn chores and snow removal and starts to set up his shearing schedule. Shearing begins in early April and Ron is usually booked full time through at least late June. His schedule is mostly filled by late February, but if you want to use him for shearing and he hasn’t contacted you yet, give us a shout.
Our next “spring” task is to register for the North American and Northeast Alpaca shows. This annual event kicks off the season for many alpaca breeders in the northeast. We look forward to getting out and seeing not only our alpaca friends, but the newest crop of alpacas on the show circuit. Show registration is on my list for today. Now we’re really starting to think spring!!
