The new year is barely underway and it’s already time to start registering for the spring alpaca shows. This year the AOBA National Conference will be held in Harrisburg, PA and that’s a lot closer to home than usual for nationals. So how can we NOT go to this show, even though we risk having to transport alpacas through snow, sleet or whatever kind of “wintry mix” mother nature cares to throw our way in mid- March? Yes, mid-March – just over two months from today. Registration deadlines are looming…
So we started the registration process today. This spring we will show two juvenile males, Snowshoe Ammonoosuc and Snowshoe Applejack. Ammo is full brother to our multi-champion, Snowshoe Aristides and he looks just as spectacular. He’s actually pretty much a clone of Aristides. He’s a large male – he weighed almost 90 lbs at four months old – and he has great presence for a young alpaca. His fleece is beautiful. We’ll see how he does up against competition from across the country.
Applejack is one of our first offspring from Alberta Clipper. Clipper is an older male, but due to complications from a bout with p. tenuis, he did not do much breeding.
Applejack is a bit younger and smaller than Ammo, so he hasn’t been weaned yet. He has excellent fleece coverage, a gorgeous head and bright, crimpy fiber. Jack’s dam, Cinnamon girl has given us a number of very nice crias and they all have been some of the cutest crias ever produced on this farm.
So we’re barely into winter and 2014 and we’re already busy making plans for spring (actually, it won’t be spring until the week after the national show!). Let’s all keep our fingers crossed for good weather for alpaca breeders across the country who will be traveling to this show.
