Yes, it’s officially spring, but that doesn’t mean it has to feel like spring. Up here we have a transitional season we call “mud season” and it is aptly named. It can take some time for the weather to melt all the snow, drive the frost out of the ground and dry up the mud. Some years it seems to take a very long time…
We still have a fair amount of snow in our pastures in mid-April this year. It sounds like we have a few cold nights coming up and a chance of rain or snow over the weekend. The garden is still covered with snow; last year at this time I had quite a bit of it planted!
We plan to shear our alpacas the last week in April and hope for more consistently warmer weather. It’ll come…eventually; in the meantime, we go about our business in the mud.
