Snowshoe Farm is on the road to the first alpaca show of the season here in the northeast. It sure doesn’t feel like spring – the temp was a mere 4 degrees this morning in northern Vermont!
The start of show season always gets us out of our winter hibernation mode and prompts us to think about upcoming alpaca births, breeding plans for this year and our sales list. This is the time to evaluate the alpacas we have in our barn. Which ones are we going to breed? Which ones are on our sales list and what we can do to offer special incentives to prospective buyers?
Many breeders are interested in purchasing females to breed to their own males, so we want to be able to offer some of our best females before we’ve bred them to our herdsires. We offer our females with a free breeding included, however, that breeding can be transferred to another female. This gives buyers the opportunity to purchase the right female for their herdsire and also to match one of their own females to one of our herdsires.
This spring we are highlighting our maiden females – download a PDF of the listings. We have four exceptionally nice young females that are ready to breed. Each female’s purchase price includes a transferrable breeding. These four girls all have excellent pedigrees, are healthy, vigorous alpacas and have beautiful, fine fiber. We have parents and/or siblings of each one in our breeding program, so we’re motivated to sell. We have not listed prices for them. If you’re interested, let’s talk and work out a deal.
